Once installed, open the app to begin your journey with Petivity.
Compatibility with your phone
To make use of a supported version of our app you must have and maintain access to a supported smartphone which you must keep up to date. This means:
- Your phone must made by Apple, Samsung, Google, Motorola, OnePlus or Xiaomi; and
- Your phone model must have been first released no more than five years earlier than any day on which you want to use our app; and
- Your phone must be running either the latest or the immediately preceding major version of the iOS or Android operating systems, and you may sometimes need to be using the very latest version of your phone’s OS to use the newest features of our app.
If your phone doesn’t match what’s listed above, the app may still work, but we can’t guarantee it will work as expected or provide technical support (including if our app was working but then stops working).
We may also decide at any time to restrict or prohibit the use of our app on any version of a phone operating system that we consider to be sufficiently out-of-date as to present security vulnerabilities or other risks not present in more up-to-date versions. This means that until you update your operating system you may find that you cannot install, re-install, update or use our app on your phone, and in some cases that your app will stop working even if it had previously been working.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, it's time to dive into the setup process.
Do not attempt to charge your GPS + Activity Tracker or pair it until the app prompts you.
Open the Petivity Dog Tracker app and follow the initial steps we provide as we guide you through creating an account, entering your dog's information, and pairing your Tracker.
Petivity makes it easy to manage all your furry friends in one place by allowing you to create separate profiles for each dog to make sure each pet's data is accurately tracked and stored.
To add a dog to your account:
- Open the app and tap the MENU button.
- Select "Add a new dog.”
- If you're the first to add this dog, tap NO – this is the first time.
• If the dog you want to add already has a profile, ask the current owner to share it with you by tapping on the dog’s profile in their app and tapping Share this dog. - Follow the on-screen instructions with as much information you can.
Creating a full profile helps us provide you with the best and most educated recommendations we can make.
Before using your GPS + Activity Tracker, it must be linked to your dog's profile in the app. This step is crucial for accurate tracking, data collection, and monitoring your dog's activities.
To connect your Tracker to your dog’s profile:
- In the app, tap on your dog's profile, and scroll to the PETIVITY DEVICE section.
- Select "Attach Tracker" and follow the instructions to connect your new Tracker.
Linking your Tracker to your dog's profile allows you to monitor their activity levels, track their location, and receive insights into their health and well-being.
Your Tracker is designed to fit securely on any collar or harness, providing reliable tracking and monitoring for your pet's safety and health.
To attach your Tracker to your pet:
- Thread the VELCRO® Brand strap through the bars on the back of the Tracker so that the soft side faces out when wrapped.
- Remove the collar or harness from your dog and wrap the VELCRO® Brand strap with your Tracker tight around the collar or harness to secure the Tracker in place.
- Clip the collar or harness back onto your dog and adjust it for comfort.
Most owners keep the Tracker on at all times for continuous monitoring, allowing the device to record activity 24/7 and provide real-time location updates. Proper attachment ensures the Tracker remains secure and effective.
Regularly check the strap for wear and tear and replace it as needed to prevent loss.
Your GPS + Activity Tracker uses three radio connections to keep you informed and your pet safe. Understanding these connections helps you maximize the Tracker's capabilities:
- GPS Satellites: Provide precise location data by listening to signals from around 30 satellites orbiting the earth.
- Cellular Connection to Petivity HQ: Keeps us updated on your pet's activity and location, enabling real-time tracking.
- Internet Connection to Your Phone: Delivers updates and insights directly to the Petivity Dog Tracker app, ensuring you're always informed.
Your dog's profile is like their personal files, packed with all the tail-wagging details: name, photo, breed, birthday, activity goal, and the type of Petivity Tracker device they’re wearing.
- Tap your dog's photo at the top of the screen to view their profile.
- A grey window will slide up from the bottom. Scroll through to access all their info.
- To edit their details, just tap the item you wish to change.
Your dog’s exercise goal is their daily dose of fun and fitness, including walks, runs, and playtime to help keep them happy and healthy.
- Petivity can recommend a goal based on your dog’s breed and age or you can set your own.
- You might want to set your own if:
◦ Your dog is more (or less) active than their furry friends.
◦ Vet’s advice for health reasons.
◦ Location or weather changes (heat wave, winter storm, rainy season).
To change your dog’s exercise goal:
- Tap your dog's photo to open their profile.
- Scroll and tap on DAILY EXERCISE GOAL.
- Click Set my own goal instead.
- Scroll to set the new goal and tap Done.
If your pet is lost outdoors, use Find My Dog Now to locate your dog and see how far away you are from them.
To turn on Find My Dog Now:
- Go to the LOCATION tab.
- Tap FIND MY DOG NOW.
Live-tracking will try to turn on and initiate contact with the Tracker. Once found, a map will open showing your dog’s location. From here, you can zoom in and out on you and your pup or use the button in the bottom-left to change your map view.
To see how far away and in what direction your dog is from you, tap the button in the bottom-right.
Your pup’s location on the map will update every 10 seconds and remains in live-tracking mode for up to 10 minutes after closing the app, extending to three hours if you start a walk.
To turn off live-tracking, go back to the Location tab, tap Stop live-tracking, then Yes to confirm.
If you’re going on a walk with your dog or anywhere else you may worry they could get away, you can use the Start a Walk feature to turn on live-tracking ahead of time, so you’re already connected and ready to get their location:
To turn on Start a Walk:
- Navigate to the LOCATION tab.
- Tap Start a walk.
- Tap Yes to confirm.
Your Tracker will continue live-tracking for up to three hours, even if the app is closed.
To turn it off, go back to the Location tab, tap End walk, then Yes to confirm.
To share your dog’s profile:
- Have the other person install the Petivity Dog Tracker app and create an account.
◦ Remember: Each user should have their own account. - On your phone, open your dog’s profile.
- Tap SHARE MY DOG and follow the instructions.
- Your dog will now appear on their phone, making you equal co-owners.
If you’d no longer like to see a dog’s profile in your app, you can remove them.
To remove a dog from your account:
- Open your dog’s profile.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove dog from my account.
- Tap Yes to confirm.
Note: Removing a dog from your account doesn’t remove them from the account of others you shared your dog’s profile with. You can ask them to delete the dog’s profile from their account.
Ready to say goodbye?
To delete your account and all the data with it:
- Open the Petivity Dog Tracker app and tap the MENU button.
- Tap Manage my account.
- Scroll down and tap Request account deletion.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
Remember, deleting your account is final. And while we hope this isn’t goodbye forever, we hope your pet lives the long and happy life they deserve.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time.
- Go to the Petivity subscription login page and enter the email you used to purchase your subscription (your subscription account is different from your main Petivity account, which has different login credentials).
- You’ll be sent an access code. Log in with your code and select Manage Subscriptions to see all of your subscriptions.
- If you want to cancel, select Cancel subscription.
Your Tracker uses an embedded accelerometer to measure your dog's movements in three dimensions.
This device detects your dog's steps by counting them and knowing the stride length (how far each step takes your furry friend).
By multiplying the steps by the stride length, we accurately calculate the distance your dog has traveled. This method ensures we're not fooled by car rides or other non-walking activities, providing a true reading of your dog's adventures on foot.
If you feel the distance estimate is not quite right, you can easily adjust the "stride length" within the Activity Day View. Just scroll down until you find the Tune distance estimate button.
Petivity automatically determines your dog's life stage (puppy, adult, or senior) based on published veterinary guidelines specific to each breed.
These life stages impact exercise recommendations, dietary needs, and even insurance eligibility. As your dog grows, their life stage will adjust automatically, along with the tailored advice Petivity provides.
To check your dog's current life stage, tap their picture in the app and scroll down to BIRTHDAY. Ensure your dog's birthday is entered accurately, as it influences the guidance Petivity offers.
Your Petivity GPS + Activity Tracker features a sealed rechargeable battery, with a lifespan ranging up to 30 days.
Battery life is influenced by how you use the Tracker and the quality of mobile coverage in your area. Frequent live-tracking increases battery consumption, as the Tracker actively communicates with satellites every 10 seconds.
Similarly, poor mobile coverage requires the Tracker to "shout louder," consuming more power. For optimal battery life, minimize live-tracking in areas with weak coverage.
To recharge your Petivity GPS + Activity Tracker:
- Remove the Tracker from your pet's collar and take out the VELCRO® strap.
- Place the Tracker on the charging pad, paw side up, centered on the cross.
- Connect the charging pad to any USB socket, such as a phone charger or laptop.
- Monitor the "paw" lights. When all are lit, the battery is fully charged.
It's normal for the Tracker to get warm during charging.
For best results, charge the Tracker overnight while your dog sleeps. This ensures it's ready for a full day of activity tracking.
Regular charging and maintenance keep the Tracker functioning optimally.
Currently, our app does not support manual editing or addition of activities.
The activity record displayed under the ACTIVITY tab is based on automatic measurements from our wearable Trackers.
While some users wish to export their dog's data for personal analysis or integration with other data, this feature is not currently available.
Our devices are designed for continuous use without an off switch. If you want to pause use of your Tracker, simply remove it from your dog and store it safely.
When you're ready to use it again, charge it for up to five hours.
When swapping your dog's Tracker for a new one, ensure all data from the old device is fetched and stored in our cloud. Here's how:
- Go to your ACTIVITY tab and refresh the screen until it says it updated at the top.
- Open your dog's profile by tapping their photo.
- Replace the old Tracker by scrolling to the DEVICE section and tapping Replace Tracker.
- Select the new Tracker and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Secure the new Tracker to your dog's collar.
Rest assured, all your dog's activity history and data remain safe and accessible in our cloud. We’ll update it to your dog’s new Tracker.
Changing your password in our app is easy and straightforward.
To change your password:
- Open the Petivity app and tap the MENU button.
- Tap Sign out, then OK to sign out of the app.
- Tap I have an account already to sign back in.
- Select I forgot my password and follow the prompts to set a new password.
We require passwords to meet certain standards to ensure your information, as well as details about your dog and others, remain secure. This is part of our legal, contractual, and moral obligation to protect your data.
Monitoring your Tracker's battery level is easy. Simply go to the LOCATION tab in the app and look for the icon and percentage indicator.
When your Tracker needs recharging, we'll notify you on your phone. Ensure Petivity notifications are enabled on your device to receive alerts and other updates.
To conserve battery, your GPS Tracker snoozes when not live-tracking, but still collects activity measurements while out of radio contact. It periodically "phones home" using its cellular link to check if live-tracking is needed.
To adjust how often your GPS contacts the cloud:
- Open the Dog Tracker app and tap your pet's photo to open their profile.
- Scroll down to locate your pet's Tracker and tap Adjust settings to access the GPS Settings screen.
- Select how often you'd like your Tracker to wake and phone home. Keep in mind that more frequent wake-ups will drain the battery faster.
Your Tracker will implement the changes the next time it wakes up, typically a few minutes after the adjustment.
