Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 1 in 10 dogs

Initiate more informed discussions with your vet by sharing the results of your pup’s at-home kidney test.

    How our test helps

Signs of kidney disease are often hard to spot

Tracking your dog’s bathroom habits and water intake can be tricky. With a swipe of their gums, our kidney test measures their urea level through a color-scoring scale, so you can get clear and easy-to-understand results.

      Why kidney health matters

The risk of kidney disease goes up with age

Your pet has a higher risk of undiagnosed chronic kidney disease if they are 7 or older. Regularly testing your pet can help you take control of their kidney health and catch changes at home to give them a long and happy life.

        How it Works

Testing your dog’s kidney health from home

        • Take out a test strip

Each test comes with two strips, just in case your precious pup thinks the first one is a snack.

        • Rub it along their gums

Nothing crazy. You just need to get it wet. Sliding it around for about 5 seconds should be enough.

        • Wait 2 minutes & get your results!

Match your dog’s sample with the color-scoring scale on the box to get your results and guidance on what to do next.

        Kidney Test FAQs

What is the function of the Petivity At-Home Kidney Health Test?

        • The Petivity At-Home Kidney Health Test for Cats and Dogs measures urea levels in your pet’s saliva in just two minutes, helping identify changes in kidney health.

        • Urea, a waste product from protein breakdown, is a crucial indicator of kidney function. If you notice elevated levels on your pet’s test, we encourage you to speak with your veterinarian about further testing.

Is it a substitute for blood work?

        • The Petivity At-Home Kidney Health Test for Cats and Dogs complements regular lab work but doesn't replace it.

        • Elevated results suggest consultation with a vet for further testing. High levels of urea in your pet’s saliva can result from various conditions.

How do I administer the test?

        • The Petivity At-Home Kidney Health Test is a saliva test. To collect a sample and get your results, remove one of the test strips from the package, and rub both pads of the test strip along your dog’s gumline for 5 seconds on each side of the mouth to get it fully wet.

        • Start a timer for 2 minutes. When time is up, immediately compare the color of the test strip pads to the color-scoring scale on the test package to get your Final Result and our recommendation.

        • Do not leave the test strip unattended in your pet’s mouth. Avoid damaging the pad on your pet’s teeth or tongue. If either pad does become damaged, repeat the test with a new test strip.
